PDP Chieftain Toyin Amuzu Hails Emergence of Dr. Lateefat Sowunmi Kolapo, Congratulates Egbas on Deputy Governorship Choice



ABEOKUTA – A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State and the House of Representatives candidate of the party vying to represent Abeokuta South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Chief Toyin Amuzu (TA), has congratulated the people of Egbaland and the entire Ogun Central Senatorial District on the unanimous presentation of Alhaja Dr. Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo as the preferred Deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election.


Amuzu described the development as a well-deserved recognition of the contributions of Egbaland to the political, economic and social development of Ogun State, noting that the emergence of Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo represents a victory for competence, experience, inclusiveness and grassroots leadership.


In a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the PDP stalwart said the choice of the renowned educationist, community leader, religious icon and women advocate reflects the desire of the party to present credible and capable individuals who can effectively support the vision of a people-oriented government under the leadership of the PDP in 2027.


According to him, Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo's impressive record of service to humanity, commitment to women and youth development, promotion of education and dedication to peaceful coexistence have earned her respect across religious, political and ethnic divides.


"The people of Egbaland deserve congratulations for producing a woman of outstanding character, intellect and integrity. Alhaja Dr. Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo has distinguished herself in various spheres of life and has remained committed to the advancement of society.


"Her emergence as the preferred Deputy Governorship candidate is not only a proud moment for Egbaland but also a positive signal that the PDP is prepared to provide purposeful leadership and quality governance for the people of Ogun State," Amuzu stated.


The PDP leader further urged party members across the state to remain united and committed to the collective goal of returning the party to power in 2027, stressing that Ogun people are yearning for a government that prioritises their welfare, creates economic opportunities and delivers sustainable development.


He expressed confidence that with credible personalities emerging within the party, the PDP remains best positioned to offer Ogun State a government anchored on fairness, accountability, inclusiveness and genuine concern for the people.


Amuzu also commended leaders and stakeholders of the PDP and Ogun Central Senatorial District for conducting a transparent and consensus-driven process that produced Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo, describing it as a demonstration of internal democracy and political maturity.


He prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for the deputy governorship hopeful as she prepares for the enormous task of serving the people of Ogun State.
