They announced their resignation from their party on the floor of the green chamber on the 2nd and 4th of June 2026 marked a significant blow to PDP and APC, which has struggled in recent months to maintain cohesion amid internal wrangling over leadership legitimacy, imposition of consensus candidates and control of party structures.
Both lawmakers attributed their decisions to what they described as a "Protracted and Destabilising crisis" within their party's
The APM gradual rise reflected a broader pattern of political fluidity in Nigeria's legislative chamber, where alliances are increasing shaped by strategic calculations ahead of 2027.
Further defections are anticipated in the coming days as political actors reposition ahead of the deadline set by the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of party membership registrations in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
While reacting to the new development attributed to the defections of the House of Rep Members, the Chairman of the Allied People's Movement APM Ogun State and also Ogun IPAC Chairman, Comrade Dr. Abayomi Omolaja Sanyaolu welcomed the new members to APM, starting that this influx of veteran legislators reinforces the party's commitment to providing a credible alternative for governance and strengthening Nigeria's democracy processes.
Comrade Sanyaolu also appreciate the party as far as the party concerned in growing opposition party in Nigeria that within two weeks the party has gained eleven house of rep members and also called on other aggressive individuals to move into the train of APM before the INEC submission deadline
