Atiku Spokesman, Segun Showunmi Displays New Style of Leadership, Inspects UTME Centres In Abeokuta.
What seems to be the highest point of responsible opposition was displayed today by the Spokesman to the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Candidate in the last election, Hon Segun Showunmi who joined High Opinion Leaders that monitored the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in order to ensure effective and smooth running of the exercise.
Showunmi who took it upon himself to be physically involved in a process that will give birth to a Nigeria of our dream, which to me can only be realized if all and sundry put their hands on decks.
He opined that the best way to help the government improved the activities of her institutions is by directly playing an active role to do a review or provide alternative direction through a participant or non-participant observation which is the best way to have first-hand information.
The Spokesman said it is not the job of the opposition to always see the failure of the government, rather, a well-meaning opposition must be partners in progress through constant provision of necessary advice that can help improve government activities in the country.
Showunmi who set out as early as 9:00 this morning to monitor the ongoing jamb test within and outside Abeokuta visited more than 10 Jamb cetres.
His first point of call was the South-West Resource Centre at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he ensure that all computer glitches were brought under control without much ado.
Speaking with the Coordinator at the Centre, Hon. Showunmi admonished the students that were waiting to be called in to be well-behaved and be good ambassadors of their parents.
Other centres visited include BAIDON Centre 1&2, PTC Jamb Centre 1&2 opposite Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Federal University of Agriculture Centre 1&2.
At the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), three students were unable to write their exams due to lateness to the centre.
Although there were cases of biometric capturing glitches at some centres, but it was quickly resolved without wasting much time.
In Conclusion, Hon Segun Showunmi rated the exercise high and enjoined the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board not to relent in taking positive steps further.
