𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗚𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗚𝗨𝗡 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘

Today on Smash FM 88.1, the Chairman Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Ogun State, Comrade Dr. Abayomi Omolaja Sanyaolu had opportunity to speak about governance, political responsibility and the need for continuity in the development of our dear Ogun State.

One principle I strongly believe in is simple:

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁.

As someone who has followed the development of businesses and industries in Ogun State, I must commend His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the efforts his administration has made in developing our state and attracting investment.

However, if Ogun State truly wants to remain the Gateway State, there are fundamental things we must continuously get right.

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀.

𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆.

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.

These are critical to the survival and growth of businesses. Investors need an environment where people, goods and services can move freely, where businesses can operate efficiently and where lives and property are protected.

Recently, I passed through Sango and the condition of the road was deeply concerning. As a citizen, it is difficult to see such infrastructure challenges and remain indifferent.

But my question goes beyond the Governor.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴?

The Governor cannot do everything alone. Our Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, State Assembly members, local government leadership and other stakeholders all have roles to play in attracting federal interventions and demanding development for their people.

Oyo State provides an interesting example. Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated that state development can involve collaboration across different levels of government. Governance works better when elected representatives understand that their mandate is first to the people, not merely to their political parties.

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘

I remain concerned about the enormous resources sometimes expended during election campaigns. When politics becomes excessively expensive, there is a legitimate concern about whether the focus after election will remain on public service or on recovering political investments.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.

Citizens must vote for people whose records, character, competence and commitment demonstrate a genuine interest in the people.

We must also begin to understand that 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘂𝗺, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

A new administration should not automatically abandon everything a previous administration started simply because the political party has changed.

If a project is good for Ogun State, continue it.

If a policy is working, improve it.

If an idea can move our people forward, build on it.

That is how great states are built.

I also believe the Ogun State Government House should remain an important institutional symbol of governance and continuity. Rather than continually spending scarce public resources on acquiring facilities that may later be abandoned by succeeding administrations, we should strengthen and preserve institutions that belong to the people and will serve successive governments.

𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹.

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗜𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗥

Politics is like a game, but it should never become a reason for citizens to hate or fight one another.

𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀.

As the Chairman of IPAC Ogun State, I make this clear: IPAC belongs to all political parties. Our responsibility is to promote dialogue, peaceful political participation, credible democracy and the collective interest of the people.

We have strong opposition political parties in Ogun State, and that is healthy for democracy. A strong opposition should not exist merely to oppose everything; it should hold government accountable, offer alternative ideas and contribute constructively to governance.

At IPAC, we have written to the government on several issues raised by citizens because the voice of the people must not be ignored.

And let me reiterate:

𝗜𝗣𝗔𝗖 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗢 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗢 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹.

It belongs to the democratic process and exists to encourage engagement among political stakeholders.

𝗟𝗘𝗧 𝗨𝗦 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

Ogun State has everything required to be the true Gateway to Nigeria's economic prosperity.

What we need is leadership that understands that the state belongs to all of us, regardless of political party.

A Governor should be a Governor for everyone — APC, PDP, APM, LP, ADC, SDP and every other political platform.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.

If we can put political differences aside, embrace continuity, strengthen accountability and work together across party lines, I believe Ogun State can become the Gateway State we all desire.
