EGBA AGENDA CONVENTION: PROFESSOR YEMI OKE DOES Not HAVE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO SPEAK FOR US OR REPRESENT OUR COLLECTIVE VIEWS, Egba Baloguns Vow

RE: PURPORTED PRESS STATEMENT ATTRIBUTED TO PROFESSOR YEMI OKE ON THE ATTENDANCE OF BALOGUNS AT THE EGBA AGENDA CONVENTION

The attention of the undersigned Baloguns has been drawn to a press statement purportedly issued by Professor Yemi Oke concerning the attendance of some Baloguns at the recent Egba Agenda Convention held at the Sports Club, Abeokuta.

We wish to state categorically that members of the public should disregard any publication purporting to speak on behalf of the Baloguns who attended the convention. To the best of our knowledge, Professor Yemi Oke is not a Balogun in any Egba town and therefore lacks the authority, mandate, or standing to speak for us or represent our collective views.

The assertion that they were cajoled and fraudulent deceived by an eminent Balogun and Egba high Chief is not only disrespectful but unbecoming of anyone that called himself a chief. It’s against all ethics of a chief to insult a brother chief without any bases. This is not the first time the Balogun had been involved in Egba agenda related meetings and gatherings.

The Baloguns of Egbaland, like all citizens, enjoy the constitutional right to freedom of association and are at liberty to attend any gathering, meeting, or political event of their choice. Our attendance at the Egba Agenda Convention was voluntary and at the invitation of one of our highly respected Baloguns. Our participation was motivated solely by our commitment to the advancement of the Egba Agenda and the development of Egbaland.

As traditional leaders and heads of our respective towns and communities, we are capable of making independent decisions regarding the events we attend and the causes we support. No individual has the authority to dictate our movements or speak on our behalf without our consent.

Furthermore, this position was clearly stated during the monthly meeting of the Ologun and Olorogun of Egbaland. It is therefore surprising that a contrary narrative is being circulated. We consider the said publication to be self-serving and not reflective of the views of the Baloguns who attended the convention.

We urge the public to disregard the purported statement and any attempt to misrepresent our motives or actions. Our commitment remains the progress, unity, and advancement of Egbaland.
