Process Remains Suspended - Government

However feelers indicate that some members of the Fusengbuwa ruling House said they were not carried along before the list of 95 Princes who indicated interest in the Throne was pruned to 5. They also also dismissed the letter dated April 15,2026 as fictitious.

Meanwhile late on Thursday June 18,2026 , the Ogun State Government dismissed the Nomination of the five Princes saying the suspension placed on the succession process had not been lifted.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said “The position of the law is that the letter that will convey the decision of the kingmakers when it has to do with selection of king will be from the local government to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and not through any individual. The letter is of no consequence and the members of the public should disregard it.

As long as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has not issued any contrary directive or statement, nothing has changed regarding the government’s position on the Awujale succession process.”
