DRUG ABUSE: Be Cautious of What You Take, Drink to Prevent Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking,--- NDLEA Urges Youths

As the 2024 United international against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking marked throughout the world, the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) led by NC Tijjani Rabe has engaged youths of Obantoko in Odeda local government Areas of Ogun State in what they take, drink to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking.



The NDLEA Commander, CN Tijjani Rabe said this on Tuesday June 25th 2024 at the 2024 united nations international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking held at the Unique Hall, Irepodun Iyanbu CDA Obantoko, Abeokuta Ogun State Capital in Collaboration with the Irepolere Ogunji Area Community Development Council, Obantoko in Odeda Local government, Ogun State and Asiwaju Wahab Foundation.



The NDLEA Chief extended his heartfelt appreciation to the organizers for their dedication to this critical cause and to all the participants who have gathered to contribute to the discussion and solutions.



He said drug abuse is a pervasive challenge that affects individuals, families and communities across our state and entire nation. It undermines public health, fuels crime and threatens the very fabric of our society. And this is why the theme for this year's UN Celebration "The evidence is clear, invest in prevention is apt. Prevention involves education, awareness, and community engagement areas where each of you plays an indispensable role.



He then encourage everyone to consider the following: 

Education Awareness, Community involvement, Collaboration and Sport System.

Earlier in her Speech, the Irepolere Area CDC Chairman, Mrs M. M. Adeoti (A.K.A. Iya Africa), welcomed the team of both Drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) and Asiwaju Wahab Foundation to this year international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking with theme "THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR: INVEST IN PREVENTION".


She said indeed, there is no appreciate time than now for this very important safety health activities for our society taking notice of what we are passing through in our various environment. She thanked the NDLEA and Asiwaju Wahab Foundation for choosing Irepolere Area CDC as avenue for this year's programme.


Mrs Adeoti then advice people most especially the youths to key into the theme of this year's programme and stay away from drug abuse both in terms of usage and trafficking for a better future for themselves and the society in general for the benefit of all of us. And should all Say No To Drugs, Yes To Life.



Why speaking, the President of Dapo Wahab Foundat ion, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab said as we gathered today to mark 2024 international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, we are reminded of the critical challenge that drug abuse posses to our communities, our nation and the world at large. Today we reaffirm our commitment to addressing this issue with the urgency and dedication it demands.


In the topic Summarized, "Community of Opportunity: An Antidote to drug abuse in our Communities" could not be more timely or relevant that it's encapsulates a fundamental truth: the power to combat drug abuse lies within our communities and it is within our collective strength and resolve that we can create environments where hope thrives, opportunities abound, and the specter of drug abuse is diminished.


Asiwaju Dapo Wahab encourage the participants to also consider the following; Economic Environment, Strengthen Families, Health and Rehabilitation Service and Community Engagement and involvement.


He conclude that we should all remember that the fight against drug abuse is not what one can won in isolation. It requires the concerted effort of every member of our society. The Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation is fully ready to lead this charge, but is not what they can do alone. That they need the partnership of government, businesses, community leaders and every concerned citizens.
