Coalition of Ogun State APC Stakeholders Say Hoodlums Mobilised to disrupt Ward Congress.
The Coalition of Ogun State APC Stakeholders (COAS) has raised alarm over plans by some highly placed Government functionaries in the State to unleash terror on members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as they file out to participate in the ward congress of the party which is slated for Saturday. In a statement signed by Chief Babafemi Akinwale, the Coordinator of COAS, he called for all hands to be on deck to ensure a peaceful congress.
Members of the Congress Committee led by Hon. Chief Wale Ohu, who were sent to Ogun State to conduct saturday’s Ward Congress were unable to have a peaceful pre-congress meeting with stakeholders on Thursday due to the violence deployed by some thugs at the venue. The event which was held at the Conference Hotel, Abeokuta could not be concluded as people had to flee for their lives. The committee members escaped being hurt by the whiskers.
‘’People with high propensity for violence demonstrated lack of respect for democratic tenets in the glare of stakeholders as we saw on Thursday must be curtailed by all lovers of democracy and rule of law. The disruption of a meeting of the members of Congress Committee is a disgrace to the State in its entirety.
‘’There are indications that some people are hell bent to cause mayhem again tomorrow so as to prevent people from coming out to participate in the exercise. It has come to our notice that some transport union members and thugs have been mobilised heavily across the State to disrupt the congress.
‘’ It has become not only expedient but highly imperative that members of the public are informed of the plans of these anti-democratic elements to unleash violence on the people. The dastardly acts which were carried out on Thursday should not be allowed to be repeated, Akinwale noted.
The APC Ward Congress which is billed for Saturday is expected to be held in the 36 States of the Federation as well as the FCT, Abuja. This Congress will produce officers that will pilot the affairs of the party at the wards level.
Akinwale called on parents to warn their wards not be used as cannon folders for selfish politicians. He also called on party faithful to come out en mass to elect people into various positions who will manage the affairs of the party at ward level. He also charged people to come out in large numbers to exercise their civic right and not give in to intimidation by anti-democratic elements as security forces will be on ground to protect lives and properties.
