A CALL FOR JUSTICE: KILLING OF A STUDENT BY THE NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE, OGUN STATE COMMAND.
The recent killing of a vibrant and aspiring Nigeria Student of Agosasa Community High School, in person of Miss. Sekinat Agbelade that was killed on Saturday 28th of March, 2020 by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun State Command Idiroko, Ogun State.
The agency who were pursuing the smugglers at Agosasa Community of Ipokia Local Government had an unprofessional clash with the smugglers which resulted into the death of Miss. Sekinat Agbelade and injured some residents.
The deceased, Miss. Sekinat Agbelade of Agosasa Community High School was preparing for her West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) before her premature death.
This agency is set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria to protect the border area and not to injure or kill the border residents. The Leadership of NANS frowns at this act which is a criminal offence under the law. We call on the leadership of Nigeria Customs Service, the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali(rtd) and the Ogun state command Comptroller, Agbaro O. M. to bring the perpetrators of this unjust act to book in 72 hours and let justice prevail or face the vehement action of NANS.
It is also in this same consultative spirit that we totally condemn the uncivilized and destructive activities of the men of the Nigerian Customs Service (especially at the boarder area) towards the untimely death of Our innocent student and injuries unleashed on citizens of Ihunbo, agosasa community and Ipokia Local Government during the course of a run-after with the smugglers.
In pursuance of our objective to protect the rights of all Nigerian students, we do not only mourn the regrettable loss of our student of Agosasa Community High School, Agosasa in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state, we also seek justice.
This aspiring student, Miss. Sekinat Agbelade cannot just be another casualty swept under the carpet of history. Her death will not be inconsequential as we have had enough of the poor-handedness, unprofessional and recklessness of the customs officials in this part of the country.
We hereby demand a holistic measures from the authority in order to bring the culprits to book and as well compensate the family of the demised.
To this, we express dissatisfaction and call for prompt intervention of the Comptroller General to give necessary sanctions to the Command comptroller under 72hours ultimatum to bring the perpetrators to book.
We also demand that the ways of operation of the NCS especially in Ogun State Command should be reviewed as the same thing happened last year in the same Local Government where we lost three(3) of Our students of Ojumo Community High School, and market women at Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
As we sympathize, we enjoin the family and the good people of Ipokia Local Government to stay calm while the government handles the case following due processes. We desire that they should not take the laws into their hands. This is because Nigeria, like every other country of the world, is facing a combat against the pandemic Coronavirus otherwise known as COVID 19.
May the Almighty Allah grant her-Miss. Sekinat Agbelade Aljana Fridaus (Aminyarob)
Yours in Nation Building!
