SEGUN SHOWUNMI TUTORS OTHER POLITICIANS ON THE NEED FOR PROACTIVENESS

One of the greatest assets of a leader is to have full understanding of time, understanding the time implies having the gift to foresee the actions or inactions of those who are saddled with the responsibility of running the affairs of the nation in a time of crisis and peace.

On March 19, 2020, Atiku Spokesman, Hon. Segun Showunmi through his help rendering scheme tagged  "Segun Showunmi Intervention Programme" released #500,000 to cushion the effects of the corona virus panic on the people.

Segun Showunmi who contested for House of Representatives in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency decided to release the relief funds to enable people prepare for the intending lock down.

In a release that emanated from the scheme, the Coordinator said that it was necessary to provide succour to the people during this hard time as the economic impact of the global unrest will be too hard to bear.

The Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain in Ogun state did not restrict the disbursement to his Federal Constituency, it cuts across the 20 local government of Ogun state.

The 20 beneficiaries were given #25,000 each to enable them stock the house with food stuffs before the lockdown was announced.

Showunmi in his recent release called on President Muhammadu Buhari to shun the dramatic suspense no address the nation on the way forward.

The Spokesman who is fond of leading the government in the right direction not quite long gave the Executive Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun a quickening tablet, showing him why he must be proactive in handling the corona virus issue like his counterpart in Lagos.

See the letter below:
Speak to us, dear President

Segun Showunmi

Mr President, I need to let you know that although I am happy to see you looking healthy, I am extremely unhappy that you seem not to get that leadership is not some dramatic suspense thriller, when your citizens need to hear you talk to them. Please know that nothing else will be acceptable than an address where you reassure us and update us on the state of things.

This is not the time to play Daddy Cool, no. This is the time to show, from the tone of voice, to the gesticulations, and answers to one or two questions, that, indeed, you take the citizens of our beloved country seriously.

This undue drama and suspense is what is breeding insults from all quarters. We will all rally around you, but you need to take the lead. By the way, where is your Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, when he is most needed? I don’t want to believe that there is a deliberate policy to keep the very best speaking head in your cabinet off the beat, while less inspiring and near colourless fellows speak to the nation at this time.

Mr President, fix this please. We are in an emergency, the like of which we have never been confronted with.
