US Consul General in Closed Door Meeting with PDP Leaders in Ogun


The United States Consul General, Claire Pierangelo on Monday, 27th January, 2020, paid a courtesy visit to the leading opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun State Chapter to interact with the opposition party and feel the pulse of the opposition for the purpose of enhancing true democracy.
The delegation which also included the Political Officer of the United States Consulate General office in Lagos, Jillian Itharat was received in the State Capital, Abeokuta by the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi and notable leaders of the party across the state.

In her remarks, the Consul General stated that their visit to Ogun State was borne out of the need to know how opposition parties are contributing to the entrenchment of true democracy in Nigeria. She implored the PDP leaders not to relent in providing vibrant opposition to the government in power to keep the government on its toes for the purpose of strengthening true democracy.

Party leaders at the event took turns to acquaint the visitors with the various efforts that the opposition have taken so far to ensure the ruling government deliver dividends of democracy to the populace.

In his own remarks, Elder Akinwonmi expressed the party's appreciation to the Consul General and her team for deeming it fit to visit Ogun state, he promised that the party would not relent in providing a credible opposition to the ruling party. He also used the opportunity to inform the delegation about the roles played by a National Leader of the party in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu in ensuring a capable and strong opposition in Ogun State.
Some of the other prominent leaders at the event include Chief Kolapo Ogunjobi, Chief Zacheus Oyekunle, Princess Ronke Ogunremi, Mrs Job Oriola, Elder Sunday Soledolu, Mr Segun Sowunmi and a host of others.

Shortly after the open meeting with the entire party leaders, the US Consulate General delegation and some leaders led by Elder Akinwonmi entered went into a closed door meeting that lasted for about one hour.
