IPAC Urges Nigerians to Shun Vote-Buying, Violence Ahead of 2027 Elections.

The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, (IPAC), Ogun State, Comrade Dr. Abayomi Sanyaolu, has called on Nigerians to actively participate in the 2027 general elections by voting for candidates of their choice and rejecting vote-buying and electoral violence.

Sanyaolu made the call while featuring on Zents 90.9 FM Abeokuta flagship programme, Voice of the Patriots, on Monday, August 31st, 2026, where he discussed the role of IPAC in strengthening Nigeria's electoral process and preparing political parties and citizens for the 2027 elections.

He explained that IPAC serves as a platform that brings political parties together, noting that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria are members of the council. According to him, IPAC promotes dialogue among political parties, intervenes when disputes arise and advises governments on policies that can enhance democratic governance. 

“IPAC unites all the political parties, and whenever there are disputes, we intervene, and we also advise the government in power so that the people can enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The IPAC Chairman also expressed concern over what he described as the poor state of development in his home, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. He argued that the situation should not be blamed solely on the governor or the local government chairman, stressing that elected representatives at both the state and federal levels also have responsibilities to their constituents.

Sanyaolu charged political representatives from Odeda to wake up to their responsibilities and work towards improving the living conditions of the people, reminding public officials that political power is temporary. 

“Those representing our people all over the country must wake up and do the needful. Power is transient; nobody will remain in a position of authority for life,” he stated.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the IPAC chairman urged Nigerians to reject the temptation of selling their votes for immediate material benefits, describing such practices as detrimental to good governance. He also appealed to political actors and their supporters to shun violence and allow citizens to freely exercise their democratic rights.

Sanyaolu, however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the 2027 elections are peaceful, credible and transparent, saying the commission should build on the lessons from recent electoral experiences.

“INEC must ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, and that we surpass what we witnessed on August 15th in Osun,” he concluded.
