I CAN'T SUPPORT NON-INDIGEN TO GOVERN OGUN STATE, Ogun Former APC Chieftain (LASEM).
•••••• Says He Remains Committed to Supporting a Leadership That Understands The State's History
ABEOKUTA — A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Olanrewaju Ebenezer Sowunmi, popularly known as Lasem, has said he has no regrets over his decision to leave the ruling party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he could not support the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
Lasem, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta on Monday, said his decision to defect from the APC was based on principle and his conviction about the future of Ogun State.
According to him, "I never regretted leaving the APC for the PDP because I can't support an Ekiti man to become the next Ogun State governor."
He maintained that his political decision was informed by what he described as the need to protect the political interests of Ogun State, adding that he remains committed to supporting a leadership that understands the state's history, aspirations and developmental priorities.
The former APC stalwart expressed confidence in the PDP's chances ahead of the 2027 governorship election, urging residents of the state to support leaders they believe possess the competence, vision and commitment to move Ogun State forward.
Lasem's remarks come amid growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major political parties intensifying consultations and mobilization across the state.
