Segun Showunmi Pen down Emotional Condolence Message on Late Olakitan Oyesiku

Olakitan Oyesiku, omo Baba Nelson Oyesiku, our beloved Aunty Kiitan.

I have not been able to come to terms with the fact that you have been murdered.

Haa! Who does that to a woman whose greatest love was her peace, her home, her privacy, and the simple dignity of minding her own business?

Kiitan was an institution in prim and proper. The type you would expect to find in a good old English town. Everything about her reflected order, discipline, and quiet elegance.

I have not been in denial. I saw the pictures. I spoke with someone who took your body to the mortuary, someone who had known you all his life. There was no doubt about the identification. Yet a million thoughts have continued to run through my mind.

Was there a dispute over your late father’s estate? Was someone trying to steal land? Who would assassinate Aunty Kiitan, and for what? What valuable possession could she possibly have had that would make someone rob and kill her?

I have been in a state of cold rage, asking myself what has become of the society of the good old peaceful Abeokuta that we knew.

O ma se o.

This is so painful.

That someone could kill a truly innocent woman who was still very much in her prime, never mind that she had retired, is difficult to comprehend.

Kiitan was brilliant. She came from good pedigree. She was firm, suffered no fools gladly, and yet she was everybody’s aunty in Ibara Housing Estate.

When people lived in government quarters without maintaining them, Aunty Kiitan’s house was always neatly painted. Her little garden was always beautifully manicured. Everything around her reflected care, pride, and good taste.

And she loved good chocolate cake.

😭

She was that tea-and-cake kind of lady. Simple pleasures. Quiet joys. A refined soul.

What a terrible loss.

There are not enough curses to render upon the animals who committed this act. There is no point. My prayer instead is that they face justice. Swift justice. Maximum justice.

Human life cannot be reduced to this.

Oh beloved Aunty Kiitan, I am sorry about the madness that has cost us your good self.

May you rest in perfect peace.

May all who knew and loved you be comforted.

May your memory remain a blessing to all of us who were privileged to know you.

It is most unfortunate.
