House of Rep. Hopeful, Toyin Amuzu Extols Workers on May Day

"Our Workers, Our Pride, I Am Proud of All You Do"

On this year’s May Day, I, Chief Toyin Amuzu, join millions of Nigerians and workers across the world to celebrate the courage, resilience and unwavering commitment of our workforce.

Today is not just a public holiday, it is a moment of reflection, recognition and renewed resolve.

Our workers are the backbone of our society, the engine of our economy and the silent heroes who keep our nation moving despite enormous challenges. From the civil servants in our ministries to the artisans in our communities, from teachers shaping the future of our children to traders sustaining local economies, your contributions are invaluable. Truly, our workers are our pride.

The theme of this year’s celebration, centered on worker solidarity, economic revival and dignity, speaks directly to the realities we face today. In an era marked by economic hardship, rising costs of living and uncertainty, Nigerian workers have continued to demonstrate strength, unity and hope. I salute your perseverance.

As we reflect on the call to “Reclaim Workers’ Power and Dignity in an Age of Crisis,” we must also emphasise the need for fairness, equity and justice in labour relations. Workers deserve not just wages, but living wages, not just employment, but meaningful and secure jobs, not just recognition, but respect and inclusion in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

In Nigeria today, where the conversation is increasingly focused on labour relations in a time of economic recession, it is imperative that government, employers and stakeholders work collaboratively to create policies that protect workers and promote economic stability. We must build a system where hard work is rewarded and dignity of labour is upheld at all levels.

I reaffirm my commitment to advocating for policies that empower workers, create opportunities and ensure that no one who labours honestly is left behind. A prosperous society can only be built on the foundation of a motivated, protected and valued workforce.

To every worker out there, your sweat builds our future, your sacrifices sustain our present and your hope defines our tomorrow. I am proud of all you do.

Happy May Day.

Sincerely Yours,

Toyin Amuzu, TA
