Egba Leaders Renew Commitment to Build And Sustain Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections..



The leaders have called for unity and peace  among the sons and daughters of egba land ahead of the potentially turbulent coming 2027 elections.


The stakeholders made the call on Wednesday 17th December at a Symposium organised by the Egba Agenda Forum thanked; "The Political Psychology of Ogun State and the Imperfective of an Egba Governor in 2027".



In his keynote address, the State Leader of the forum, Hon. Prince Dapo Adeyemi said the purpose of gathering is to explore the complexities of Ogun State political landscape and the aspirations of the Egba people in 2027.


He noted that the theme of the symposium with the hindsight to the ambition of aspirants from other senatorial district to occupy the seat in 2027 is carefully chosen and discussion will focus on the historical context, current challenges, and future prospects for leadership in Ogun State, particularly in 2027.


In his own, the Balogun of Ilogbo in Abeokuta South local government,High Chief Mustapha Owolabi said thoroughly Egba has transformational leaders, but the region still far behind its peers in terms of development.



"Our conversation should not stop until Egba got the right leader in position in 2027 and We need to invest in building our leaders that have been there before and we must also invest in future leaders, the people, the young people that are coming, Siad MAO.


In his remarks, the Ogun State Action Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Aspirant, Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe urged that Egba needed to do more to ensure youths inclusion in any position, leadership and all other sectors.



"Egba has a potential to survive. We have to potential to redirect this region. We have potential to mentor the young ones. The only thing we need is the willingness of our elders to give us maximum support," said BCO.


He urged the people to prioritize dialogue, tolerance, and respect each other, placing the supreme interest of the region above personal or partisan interests.


In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion who is also the Conveniener of the Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi emphasised the need for transformational leadership of Egba Land that every leaders and elders of Egba Land to rise beyond convenience into conviction to save Egba land from some individuals claiming they are part of them and trying to cripple the effort of their forefathers 


He described that Egba as a region with abundant resources, vibrant population and an enviable geo-strategic position in Ogun State and Nigeria. He expressed hope that the upcoming elections will be free, transparent, and inclusive, and everyone will be given an opportunity to demonstrate democratic maturity and love for Egba, our beloved hometown.


Showunmi then made an appeal to President Bola Hamed Tinubu to play a role of good leader in coming general elections and allow each state and region pick their Candidate themselves, that as Lagos State is being govern by brilliant learner people so Ogun State too should be govern by same not politicians sharing rice and other things for their followers.


While delivering his lecture, the guest lecturer, Zents Kunle Sowunmi said the Imperative for Egba in 2027: Consociational and Strategic Rationale

and the call for an Egba Governor in 2027 is defended not as ethnic triumphalism but as a necessary corrective step within a broader, informal consociational bargain that recognizes 

the three senatorial axes as co-founding blocs (Lijphart, 1977).


He said the data confirms that the Ogun East Senatorial District has collectively held the governorship for over 16 years, compared to 12 years for Ogun Central. though Ogun West remains the only district with zero years in office, the Political Psychology of Manipulation and Imbalance

the protracted dominance by Ogun East—particularly the consecutive eight years under Gbenga Daniel (Remo) followed by the current term of Dapo Abiodun (Ijebu)—has been interpreted as an elite strategy of power consolidation. It's also show that the "policy of manipulation" 

posits that dominant elites do not merely take power; they strategically frame electoral outcomes to convert structural exclusion into a narrative of the excluded group's own political incompetence.


He urged leaders to increase their efforts to promote interreligious dialogue and understanding as a means to build and sustain a culture of peace.


The message of unity was shared with the event's almost six hundred attendees, who represented the region and came from all the twenty (20) local government across Ogun State.


"While praying for peace and easing of political tensions, the leaders calls for upon all Political actors, civil society organisations, and men and women of Goodwill, to work with their strength for peace and region's unity."
