Ogun Assembly Member Urges Citizens to Protect Government Property
Ogun State House of Assembly has advised Nigerians to take ownership and ensure adequate protection of government property and infrastructure in their domains, as part of efforts to enhance good governance across the Country.
The Minority leader of the House of Assembly, Mr Lukman Adeleye representing the Odogbolu State Constituency, who gave the advice while featuring on Radio Nigeria Paramount FM's Audience participatory programme, Ćjį»ba Tiwa-n-tiwa, condemned the act of vandalism of social amenities, including roads and theft of electrical equipment, by some unpatriotic citizens for selfish interests.
Mr Adeleye who urged people of the State to always report suspicious activities on government infrastructure, to security agencies, towards safeguarding them, noted that National development required the collective efforts of both the leaders and the citizens.
He pointed out that the State legislature was collaborating with the Executive arm of government to ensure that every Constituency in the State enjoy good road networks and other dividends of democracy, commending the efforts of governor Dapį» Abiodun on infrastructural development across the State.
Mr Adeleye however, appealed to relevant authorities to take the necessary steps on full implementation of local government Autonomy, to promote grassroots development, stating that, the council areas which were the closest arm of government to the people, had become shadow of itself, due to inadequate funding.
He encouraged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of holding their Representatives accountable for good governance at all times, through regular meetings, and also stressed the need for them to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous voter's Registration, CVR, to enable them to discharge their civic responsibilities in future elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, legislator in Ogun State House of Assembly, who restated his commitment to quality representation and grassroots development, disclosed that, he had to his credit, the law Establishing the Office of the Principal-General in the State, and the law seeking the domestication of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, awaiting the Governor's assent, as well as many motions, to promote good governance in the State.
