Ogun Children's Parliament Calls for Urgent Action Against Child Abuse

 


The Ogun State Children’s Parliament has held a plenary session calling on the State Government and relevant stakeholders to take urgent and decisive action to end all forms of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation in the state.



The session, held at the Ogun State House of Assembly chamber and organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, saw the young legislators adopt a resolution demanding stronger laws, stricter enforcement, and coordinated efforts to safeguard children’s rights.



The parliament noted that despite significant government investment in education and child welfare, incidents of abuse, child labour, trafficking, and neglect are increasing, posing serious threats to children’s dignity and future in Ogun State.


Speaker of the Children’s Parliament, Master Ezekiel Olaoluwa, from Ifo 1 state constituency commended the state government’s proactive initiatives to protect children,and called for more decisive measures, stressing that unchecked abuse would deprive children of their innocence, potential, and future contributions to society.


In a remark, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Oludaisi Elemide, assured that the resolution would receive due attention and urged the young parliamentarian to guard the privilege jealously, always serve as exemplary leaders, and remain worthy ambassadors of Ogun State.


Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Adijat Adeleye, said the Children’s Parliament provides young people a platform to express their views ,saying including children in decision-making remains  vital for any nation seeking sustainable development.


Members of the 5th Assembly of the Children’s Parliament were selected from all constituencies through a rigorous merit-based process to ensure fair representation and the inclusion of outstanding young voices.
