ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY: Fix insecurity, Encourage Youth inclusiveness, and Enhance lndustrialisation, Group Urges BAT
The National President of Fix Nigeria Group, Tunde Eso congratulates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his one year anniversary at the helm of affairs of our beloved country.
Eso said this at the group's national executives meeting held Wednesday in Abuja.
The political activist said recent economic policies of government has caused unprecedented social vices, and unimaginable increase in the cost of living with devastating effects on the standard of living of the citizens. Eso however, urged the president and state governors to implement positive policies that will improve the standard of living of Nigerians. More so, he appealed for a national agenda of youth inclusiveness in governance, enhance industrialisation with our God-given untapped natural resources, provide affordable power supply, and drastic reduction of insecurity to attract foreign direct investment opportunities into Nigeria.
Eso said, "Severally, I have urged the federal government on the need to implement an effective national policy implementation of a youth agenda in collaboration with the states by providing empowerment programmes that will get the youths engaged, get them off the streets, and make them productive and responsible citizens for a better Nigeria."
The National Treasurer of the group, Anuhu Boyi said government should strengthen intelligence gathering capability of security agencies to preempt insecurity threats before they escalate, invest in current technology applications for surveillance and monitoring, including drones and CCTV systems, to enhance border security and urban safety and also
collaborate with neighboring countries and international partners to address transnational security challenges, such as terrorism and smuggling.
He further said the government should Improve on the welfare and training of security personnel to enhance their effectiveness and professionalism,
implement community policing initiatives to foster trust and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
In his contribution the National Youth Leader of the group, Ahmad Mustapha Darma said Nigerian youths now face several challenges and proffered suggestions to address them saying those at the helm of affairs should encourage youth participation in politics and governance, support youth-led initiatives and organisations like Youthocracy - a new system of government, support the originator who is a Nigerian to encourage more youth to shun criminal tendencies, promote voter registration and education.
Additionally, government should alleviate social and cultural pressures, encourage critical thinking and media literacy, promote mental health and wellness initiatives, foster inclusive and diverse cultural expression, provide access to positive role models, promote mentorship programs and networking opportunities, and encourage youth-led initiatives and community-based organizations and programs.
These initiatives require collaborative effort from government, the civil society, the private sector, and individuals to address the complex challenges facing Nigerian youths.
The National Director of Information and Communication of the group, Engr. Charles Okwuokenye calls on government to, as a matter of urgency, to initiate policies to industrialise the country and provide basic amenities for the citizens. Most importantly, provision of power is essential to enhance industrialisation, saying government should declare a state of emergency in the power sector.
In addition, security is also key in industralization pursuits. The government should therefore improve on the security of life and properties, as no investor will invest in an unsecured environment. The level of insecurity in the country today does not encourage investment.
On the issue of multiple taxation from the three tiers of government, government should put a stop to such unwholesome practices saying government should consolidate all revenues accruing from companies.
On alleviating the challenges of insecurity, government should consider community policing by sending an executive bill to the National Assembly to make laws that will regulate community policing, provide an environment for effective performance, and prosecute anyone found operating outside the confines of the law establishing the force.
The National Secretary of the group, Taiwo Bernard urged both federal and state governments to develop industrial policies and incentives that adds value across key sectors of the economy such as in agriculture, manufacturing, and technology.
Government should also invest in vocational training and skills development programs to enhance the capacity of the labour force and facilitate the transition to a knowledge-based economy, improve access to financing for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) through initiatives such as venture capital funds, microfinance, and credit guarantee schemes, upgrade infrastructure, including transportation networks, logistics, and broadband connectivity, to reduce the cost of doing business and attract investment, foster innovation and entrepreneurship through support for research and development, technology hubs, and incubators to spur economic growth and competitiveness.
