I know of a country not far away

A country where hunters are the hunted

A country where the poor is at the mercy of the poor

A land where people celebrate thieves

A land where kidnappers are kings

A land where political thieves are given noble titles

A land where pigs are adorned in white raiment

A land where dogs are put in the nests

A land where birds are put in big wooden cages

I sure Know of a country in Africa

Where their leaders cannot think beyond food

The only time their leaders take decision is when they nominate clueless individuals for appointment

A land where we make mockery of God's blessing

A land where we go to church without genuine repentance

We yearn for miracle without paying the dues

We do our wishes leaving that of God undone

I do know a country in Africa.

I know a country in the best part of Africa

An old African giant

The economic bank of Africa

What happen to the glory days of free education?

When we made cocoa plantation our revenue source

When our anthem is sand with real passion

When we don't have to deny our identity to live in another entity

When we are willing to go all the way for our motherland

When our motherland has not become an hinterland

Our motherland is now a country behind

When shall we sing the song of victory

Victory from alms men called herdsmen

When shall we be freed from political pharaoh

When will our Israelites regain its freedom

I know a country not far away

Where everyday is laced with bloodbath

Where gunshots are heard without war

Where war songs are sang at the even of our independence

Where our flags are stained with massacre

Massacre of innocent souls

Innocent souls who wished the land more prosperity

I know a country not far away

Where all we know how to do is gone

And we are patiently waiting for what God we do

I know a nation where people are failing people

I know an hinterland

A city behind the city
