Clement Ebri to Replace Adam Oshiomhole As New Acting Chairman Of APC
All appears set for the emergence of a former Cross River state governor, Clement Ebri as the new Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress before weekend.
This followed the decisionof APC Governors to drop the incumbent Adams Oshiomhole citing, gross incompetence culminating in the party alienating itself from its founders.
Ebri was favoured to be the National chairman mid year but he announced his decision to withdraw from the race in a statement he issued.
However in a statement he signed on Tuesday night, Ebri said, “Following deep consultations with my family, friends and associates , party leaders and stakeholders in the pesent calamity of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, I have decided to accept the call to duty and serve as the National Chairmanship of the APC.
“This decision has been taken in what I consider to be the overall best interest of the party and my belief that all stakeholders must row in the same rancour -free direction as we approach general elections in a few months.”
It also gathered in Abuja , on Tuesday that one of the party’s National Leaders, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande and all the APC governors from across the country have endorsed Ebri as the consensus candidate for the position, to pull APC out of the path of doom destined for it by the former EDP Governor”.
The party’s governors, who have been engaged in a series of meetings since last week are said to have given their support to th President to rescue the party if only for the sake of winning the 2019 polls.
It was learnt that governors who attended a crucial meeting held at the Ogun State Governor ’s Lodge , Asokoro, Abuja early on Tuesday night, expressed support fo an acting National chairman.
A source, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the meeting , said, “Ebri is having the last laugh because many felt he was better placed to lead the APC after Chief Oyegun.
Ajimobi, who is also the Governor of Oyo State, explained that efforts were united in favour of Ebri in order to reduce acrimony that is killing the party.
