Afenifere Leader Called on Yoruba Groups to Desist from any Attempt to draft Yoruba Race Unwelcome

A second republic senator and national leader of the apex Yoruba sociocultural and political organization, Afenifere, Pa Senator Ayo Fasanmi, has warned some so called Yoruba groups, to desist from the attempt to draft the Yoruba race into unwelcome national opposition and negative narratives on national events.

In a release at the weekend in Osogbo, Senator Fasanmi, who was a member of the Federal House of Reps in the first republic said it has sadly come to his notice that certain groups have appointed themselves as opposition spokesmen on behalf of the Yoruba nation as if they were elected to do so.

According to the nonegerian, this is not the right thing to do. ‘How can a group decide never to see anything good in this government? How can a group decide to enemise the Yorubas against a government that has Yoruba as its number 2’?

Pa Fasanmi described the recent statement issued in Akure by a faction of Afenifere as unfortunate on a matter that has been denied by the man who was credited with the statement. ‘To echo a statement in denial against the president tantamounts to hatred devoid of any national ethos’.

Pa Fasanmi, who will be 93 this month said President Buhari should be eulogised for fulfilling his campaign promises which were based on a tripod,of security, war against corruption and economy. In his words, he has even done much more particularly, in global politics. ‘Nigeria is no more a pariah and a disdained nation’.

On the issue of his age as being canvassed by some groups, that president Buhari should not re-contest, Senator Fasanmi said many elderly people are leaders of their countries, such as United States.

According to him, though Buhari is advance in age, he is still capable and agile to lead Nigeria. ‘Many younger people have led this country in the past, and yet what is the result?’ To be old as a Leader of government business should not be the issue, but whether such person is delivering the expected services.

The Elder statesman advised the Yoruba nation to seek for more relevance with the national government for more infrastructural intervention, ‘more so our sons and daughters are placed in critical positions in the Buhari administration’.

He seized the opportunity to commend Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and Otunba Niyi Adebayo for their leadership roles in making the Yoruba nation more relevant and acceptable in the Buhari administration.
