No Consensus Yet on Ogun Senate Seats — APC

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has cautioned party members and the general public against what it described as “strange and dangerous fabrications” circulating on social media regarding the outcome of its recent caucus meeting.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Femi Nuberu, the APC said the reports misrepresented the resolutions reached at the state caucus meeting held on Monday at the party secretariat.

The report said that at the caucus meeting, the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the party.

Following the development, social media was awash on Tuesday, displaying the names of candidates for the senatorial districts in the state.

Nuberu, however, said, “For the avoidance of doubt and for the sake of absolute clarity, the party hereby reinforces its official stance as follows:

“The state caucus unanimously and consensually endorsed Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

“The state caucus equally reaffirmed the party’s earlier endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate in Ogun State for the 2027 general elections.

“The party pledges its absolute commitment to delivering an unprecedented bloc of votes in support of the President during the election.

“The above are the sole and authentic resolutions reached at the meeting and represent the official stance of the party.

“Any narrative circulating outside the scope of this official statement constitutes a fabrication, and the party clearly and categorically denounces such fabrication outright.

“Party members and the general public are advised to disregard any information not communicated through the appropriate official channels of the Ogun State APC.”

A reliable source within the APC, however, told our correspondenct on Tuesday that the Ogun Central senatorial district seat has been conceded to the former governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The source, however, said the Senate seats for Ogun West and East are inconclusive.

Speaking to our reporter on how the party may fill the three senatorial seats after announcing Yayi as its consensus governorship candidate, the party chieftain debunked the social media reports that the senatorial seats of Ogun East and West had been given to Governor Dapo Abiodun and his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, respectively.

Though Abiodun has not declared his intention to run for the Ogun East Senate, there are several billboards mounted across the state announcing his intention.

The current representative of the district and former governor, Gbenga Daniel, is also eyeing a second term at the National Assembly in 2027.

We also gathered that the deputy governor, who was eyeing the governorship seat prior to the announcement of Yayi, is also contending for the Ogun West Senate seat.

A top leader of the party who is in the know of the behind-the-scenes moves and power play within the party told the reporters that only the matter of Ogun Central had been settled.

He said the slots of Ogun West and Ogun East were still being discussed.

“I can confidently tell you that the former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is going back to the Senate; he is already cleared for the Ogun Central senatorial seat.

“For Ogun West and Ogun East, talks are still ongoing. The President is in touch with the state party leaders.

“It is not true that the Ogun East has been given to the governor and that the Ogun West seat has also been given to the deputy.

“Yes, both the governor and his deputy really want these seats, but the party is yet to make up its mind due to lots of considerations, that much I can tell you,” the top party chieftain said.

Consultations ongoing – Isola

A former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amb Sarafa Isola, has assured his supporters that he is engaging in consultations with critical stakeholders and respected voices over his governorship ambition.

In a statement made available on Tuesday, Sarafa, who had the ambition to become governor in 2027, urged members of the Sarafa Support Groups to remain calm, steadfast, and confident in the process.

“I am sure you are aware of the outcome of the APC state caucus meeting recently held in Abeokuta.

“As a democrat deeply committed to the values of inclusiveness, consultation, and responsible leadership, I wish to assure you that I am actively engaging in broad and meaningful consultations with critical stakeholders and respected voices across our political and social landscape.

“These consultations are essential to ensuring that every decision taken is not only strategic but also reflective of the collective interest, aspirations, and stability of our people.

“I urge all members of the Sarafa Support Groups to remain calm, steadfast, and confident in the process.

“Leadership, at defining moments such as this, demands patience, clarity, and a firm commitment to the greater good,” he said.

Sarafa promised that a comprehensive and well-considered position would be formally communicated after the ongoing consultations.
