2027: Labour Party Members Officially Joined The Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition
Labour Party (LP) Ipokia Local Government Chapter of Ogun State has officially joined the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, citing the need for stronger unity and a more people-oriented political platform ahead of future elections.
The defection took place at a well-attended meeting at Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) Secretariat in Ipokia on February 8, 2026, where party leaders, including Hon. Remi Ajibade, a House of Representatives aspirant, Labour Party chairmanship aspirants, Hon. Emmanuel Oluseyi Okedeyi (IMES), Hon. Ademola Kayode, and the acting Local Government Chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Daniel Obayemi, publicly declared their allegiance to the ADC coalition along with supporters.
The group described its decision as a strategic move aimed at advancing good governance, grassroots development, and inclusive leadership in the local government and the state at large. At the start of the coalition meeting, Mr. Dairo requested that each defecting member introduce themselves and the reason for the meeting. Mr. Obayemi introduced each person from various wards across the local government.
Speaking on behalf of the defecting members, a leader of the Labour Party, Hon. Emmanuel Oluseyi Okedeyi (aka IMES) said What prompted the defection is not far from the fact that leaders from different political parties came together under the umbrella of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) to form a formidable political platform that can wrestle power from the ruling party in the forthcoming election.
“After wide consultations with our members and stakeholders, we resolved that joining the ADC coalition will better position us to serve the interests of our people. Politics should be about the welfare of the masses, not endless internal crises,” the leader stated.
Representatives of the ADC coalition, including Mr. Dairo, welcomed the new members, describing the development as a boost to the party’s growing influence in Ogun State, particularly in Ipokia Local Government. “We are pleased to receive our brothers and sisters from the Labour Party. The ADC coalition remains committed to building a strong, credible alternative that prioritizes development, accountability, and democratic values,” an ADC official said.
Party supporters at the event expressed optimism that the coalition would strengthen opposition politics in the area and offer residents a more united front capable of addressing local challenges such as unemployment, infrastructure deficits, and youth empowerment.
Political observers believe the move could reshape the political landscape in Ipokia Local Government, especially as alignments and coalitions continue to evolve ahead of forthcoming political contests.
The ADC coalition reaffirmed its readiness to work with all progressive-minded individuals and groups to deliver what it described as “people-centered leadership” across the Local Government.
