Newly‑Elected PDP NWC At National Secretariat, Chased Out Pro‑Wike Thugs.

A tense standoff unfolded at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday when a group of supporters linked to former FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, led by Senator Sam Anyawun, tried to stage a video claiming control of the party. The move sparked a mild drama that quickly turned in favour of the party’s mainstream leadership.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, together with PDP National Chairman Taminu Turaki (SAN), arrived at the secretariat shortly after the Wike‑aligned faction began their show. Security operatives moved in, removed the impostors and arrested several of their members, who were taken to the nearest police station for questioning .

Earlier on Monday, Chairman Turaki had written to the FCT Commissioner of Police warning of the expelled group’s plans to breach law and order in the capital and requesting police protection  ³. As the police presence increased, Senator Anyawun fled the scene, apparently to avoid arrest.

In a brief statement after the incident, Chairman Turaki thanked the governors, the immediate past NWC members and all party leaders for their solidarity. He announced that the inaugural NWC and stakeholders’ meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday, would be postponed to Wednesday, 19 November, at Wadata House.

Chairman Turaki informed the pressmen that there is no faction in PDP but those who are no longer members of the party are the ones trying to forment trouble that the situation had been contained.

The swift action by Makinde, Bala and Turaki’s team have secured the secretariat for the party’s recognized leadership, ending the brief but chaotic attempt by the pro‑Wike thugs to claim authority.
