ADATAN - OSIELE ROAD COMMITTEE TAKES STRIDES TOWARDS REHABILITATION
In a significant development, the multi-stakeholder Adhoc Committee on the Adatan-Osiele Road Palliative works, which was constituted at the instance of the Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Honourable Oludaisi Elemide, has taken a major step towards ensuring the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Adatan-Osiele Road. On Friday 31st October, 2025, the Adhoc Committee, led by the Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi, paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Dr. R.A. Soyele, to discuss ongoing efforts and secure support for the project.
Earlier, the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Oludaisi Elemide in a statement had reaffirmed the Assembly's unwavering commitment to proactive governance, citizens' welfare and infrastructural sustainability.
At the meeting, Hon. Akinlabi expressed gratitude to the Provost for providing transportation for the Committee's visit and briefed him on previous discussions with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). FERMA has confirmed plans to commence repairs on the stretch from Adatan to Obantoko, and the Committee is now focused on ensuring that the Somorin-Osiele Road project is included in the 2026 budget.
The Provost, Dr. Soyele, commended the Committee's commitment and announced that the College's degree-awarding programme would commence in November 2025. He also revealed that an earlier planned peaceful protest was cancelled to avoid possible hijack, but an ultimatum had been sent to the state government regarding the poor state of the road.
Comrade Doyin Iyasere, Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Odeda Local Government, appealed to the Committee to intensify pressure on the Speaker, Rt Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, noting that staff of the College and other Federal institutions in the area pay heavy taxes and deserve better infrastructure.
The Registrar, Mr. O.O. Tonade, appreciated the Committee's proactive steps and lauded the Speaker for responding to the community's call. The committee's efforts are expected to bring relief to residents and commuters, who have long suffered due to the road's deplorable condition.
