Ogun LG Elections: Select Most Capable Candidate Who Can Deliver With LG Resources, Chief Owolabi Mustapha Advised Party Laeders.

Chief Mustapha Abdulhakeem Owolabi (MAO) recently appeared on Splash FM, where he shared his insights on the upcoming local government election and financial autonomy. Below are excerpts:

He emphasized that the local government chairman's role is akin to that of a state governor, attracting highly qualified professionals, including professors and PhD holders even people from diaspora are now vying for the chairmanship position. He also acknowledged that the recent financial autonomy may have something to do with the high level of enthusiasm from our people and the aspirants.  MAO distinguished between financial autonomy and true autonomy, advocating for self-sufficiency in local governments administration. For that to happen he asserted that the chairman must be innovative and embrace digitization of local government operations. He also decreed high level of urban migration as anathema to food security.    He advised party leaders to select the most capable candidates who can deliver results and reminded chairmen to manage local government resources judiciously.

He advised party leaders to select the most capable candidates who can deliver results and reminded chairmen to be judicious with local government resources as they are accountable to the people and EFCC as they do not enjoy immunity like the state governors. They should aslo be reminded that “ He who pay the pipers dictates the Tune” Federal government will be on their back every steps of the way.

On intra party wrangling: He’s confident that the leaders of the party will rise up to the occasion as usual and set up reconciliation committees post primary to resolve any and all issues of dispute before the election in November.

He advised the would be chairman to constitute a strong advisory board of non partisans technocrats, opinion and community leaders to fashion out a comprehensive approach to meeting many challenges of the local government.
