COVID-19: NGO Donates Relief Materials to Poor, Vulnerable. (Tagged OGUN SPSP COVID-19 RELIEF FUND)


In a bid to cushion the effect of stay at home order by the state and federal government, the leadership of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) Ogun State chapter has distributed relieve materials and Cash to the people of Abeokuta and it environment, the fund raising which was tagged OGUN SPSP COVID-19 RELIEF FUND was mobilised by the members of the group in Ogun State and few from outside.

While distributing the relieve funds and other items, one of the team leaders, Mrs Marry Agboola said the gesture was aimed at providing succor for the aged women and widowers, she said what they are doing today has nothing to do with politics, there was nothing like political affiliation while choosing the beneficiaries.

Communities visited by the group are Ijemo-Agbadu, Okejigbo, IMO, Oke-Yeke, Kemta Oloko, Lantoro and iyetedo in Obafemi Owode local government and a Number of people supported through electronic money transfer.

Meanwhile, the Okejigbo Community Development Association led by Pastor Solar Adeyinka commended the initiative of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), for the measures they put in place to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Pastor Adeyinka said they were happy to received the team to dialogue with the people of Okejigbo Community on pandemic, and described the team fight against the diseases as exemplary that Okejigbo is lucky to have them at the helm of affairs at this time

The State Chairman of the group, Mr Sodiq Ola-Raheem broke into tears while granting interview with our correspondent. He later responded saying, "not that I am too emotional. You all can see it and you could hear what the Community Chairman said. SPSP is not unaware of the economic situation in the country. Of course the reason for us as a responsive organization to support what the government in the state is doing.

"But I never knew the situation has gotten to this level. The gap between the extreme poor and rich is inhumane. These people are poorest of the poor groaning in pain, agony and hopelessness."

"There is no presence of government in all the communities we have been to. You can see the aged dying indoors suffering from various health challenges without succour. It is worrisome and heartbreaking."
