COVID-19: PANDEMIC: SHOMIDE URGES RESIDENTS TO MAINTAIN PROPER HYGIENE


The Chairman, Transition Committee; Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Ayodeji Michael Shomide, has advised the local government inhabitants to always maintain total cleanliness of their environments, in order to combat the novel virus termed, "Coronavirus".

The Chairman gave this advice while inaugurating the Local Government Emergency Response Committee (ERC) which would be monitoring the compliance of the people to the various measures,  available to curtail the dreaded disease in the environments.

Hon. Shomide, while confirming the pandemic as real, stated that 51 Nigerians had so far contacted the Coronavirus, out of which there patients, presently in isolation centers, came from Ogun State.

He disclosed the various precautionary measures already taken by the local government, in order to ensure the safety of lives of everyone, in these uncertain times.

The Chairman, therefore, urged all the people at the various communities, to always  wash their hands, every 20 seconds, and maintain at least 1 metre (3feet) distance from a coughing or sneezing person.

Speaking earlier, The Director of Primary Health Care in the Local Government Area , Dr. Solarin, educated members of the committee on the need for basic medical protective measures against the new Coronavirus because, according to him, when an infected person coughed or sneezed he/she would have sprayed   small liquid droplets from his/her nose or mouth which might contain contagious viruses which could be infectious to others.

The Medical Doctor, further revealed that touching of any contaminated surface could be another source of picking up the virus, once it entered the physical frame of human body.

He, nevertheless, encouraged everyone to  follow good respiratory hygiene, through the covering of mouth and nose with bent elbow or tissue, always.

In her remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Adeniregun Bukonla, enjoined members of the committee to put their hands on deck, for the purpose of achieving their set goals.
