Ogun Govt. Reopens N260 Million Pedestrian Bridge in Abeokuta



Ogun State Government has reopened the N260 million pedestrian bridge in Abeokuta, the State capital.

The fully air-conditioned pedestrian bridge was constructed by Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration but was locked up for many years after miscreants took possession of the facility for nefarious activities.

In a post on the official Facebook page of the Abeokuta North Local Government Area (LGA), officials of the State Government and LGA formerly reopened the facility for use to prevent further accident along the Ita-Eko route where the pedestrian bridge was located.

According to the post, the facility was reopened in order to ensure public use of ₦260 million pedestrian bridge constructed by the former Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun hich had been locked many years as a result of nefarious and criminal activities - like rapings, smoking of Indian hemp and many others - being perpetrated inside the walkover bridge.

The facility was inspected by thee Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourabke Moruph Afolabi Afuape, the Transition Committee of Abẹokuta North Local Government led by Prince Tunde Tella, and his committee, the vice Chairman, Hon. Ibraheem Okedara, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Tayelolu Egbeyemi, Hon. Rabiu Adebayo, the Director of works, Engr. Alalade.

The statement added that there had also been reports of motor accidents and hit-run drivers in the area as a result of the school pupils who might to cross the 6-lanes road.

"The students who supposed to use the walkover bridge could not use the facility since it had been locked by the government over years.

The Abeokuta North Transition Chairman, Dr Tella and other members of his committee, deliberated over the issue and agreed to involve the State government so as to allow the Local council to open the walkover for the public use.

While inspecting the walkover bridge, the Commissioner and transition committee observed that the engines and parts of the two standing air-conditioned equipments had been removed by the hoodlums, leaving the empty plastic standing aloof.



The Commissioner and the transition committee members explained that the opening of the walkover bridge would stop the accident in the area.
